Jose Alemany
I build machines that see, decide, and move.
I’m studying Mechatronics Engineering at Lakehead University, after studying Mechanical Engineering Technology – Design & Automation at SAIT. My interests include robotics, automation, machine vision, and practical mechanical design.
Selected projects
12 projects

VisionPick: Vision-Guided Sorting
A SAIT capstone project using camera-based localization to detect and position circuit breakers before robotic sorting.
Result: Worked in a stable 2D setup, recalibrated about every 5 picks

MPS Handling Station
A 3-axis handling station in a networked Festo MPS manufacturing line, assembled, wired, and programmed to pass puck data to the stations around it.
Result: At least 24 pucks run with correct data on the HMI

RobotStudio Digital Twin
A digital twin of a class workcell in ABB RobotStudio, with self-modeled equipment, a working gripper, ball physics, and a RAPID pick-and-place program.
Result: 11 balls placed in 67 robot moves

Canal Lock Sequencers
A PLC-controlled canal lock using SQI and SQO sequencers, with an interactive simulator that runs the real step tables.

Claptrap: Sumo Robot
A competition sumo robot with a hand-soldered PCB and range-based charging code, improved through root cause analysis after every lost fight.
Result: Won a weekly competition

Luggage Lift Control
A PLC-controlled luggage lift with latched auto sequencing, and an interactive simulator that runs the real ladder logic.

Bottle Line PLC Programming
A PLC control project for a simulated bottle-filling and packaging line.

Stirling Engine
A small-scale Stirling engine built from a detailed manufacturing drawing package, with a focus on fabrication, alignment, and assembly accuracy.
Result: Reached about 250 RPM

Spoiler Wing
A rear-wing concept assessed through CFD and FEA to check structural stiffness, pressure distribution, and local flow behavior.
Result: 0.1659 mm maximum displacement

Shaft Design
A shaft assembly design with two gears and bearing supports.

Shaft Housing
A mechanical design for a housing assembly built around a shaft, with a mounting base and detailed assembly drawing.

Box Holder
A small holder designed to attach to aluminum extrusion for keeping a box in place.
